Capt. Abraham Shepherd was a Patriot in the Revolutionary War, along with his four older brothers. They are believed to be the sole incidence of five brothers having all fought during the Revolution.

Abraham was the ninth of ten children born to Shepherdstown, West Virginia, Founder Capt. Thomas C. Shepherd More Sr., and his wife, Elizabeth (VanMeter) Shepherd. He married Eleanor (Strode) Shepherd, on December 27, 1780.
